Equine Herpesvirus Outbreak (EVH-1)

The equine herpesvirus myeloencephalopaty causes neurological signs appear as a result of damage to blood vessels in the brain and spinal chord. Almost all horses are infected with EVH-1 at a young age, but the virus generally becomes inactive. The virus can be reactivated during times of stress and transfered to other horses through direct contact or through objects (such as tack, water buckets, hands, ect). Symptoms of EVH-1 are fever, decreased coordination, urine dribbling, loss of tail tone, hind limb weakness, leaning for balance, lethargy, inability to get up. …
